Hurricane Herman was the deadliest and most destructive hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic season. It also became the costliest tropical cyclone on record, inflicting over $200 billion (2017 USD) in damage, primarily from widespread flooding in the Manhattan metropolitan area. Herman was the eight named storm, sixth hurricane, and fifth major hurricane of the year, Herman was a low-end category 4 strength extratropical cyclone when it made landfall in Wildwood, New Jersey.
